No doubt about it: A hardwood floor adds so much character and elegance to a home, and they last for decades. Like anything else, they might need some TLC from time to time, and that means refinishing.

Delair’s Carpet Barn is the expert when it comes to the wood floor refinishing service, and the last thing we want to see is either you buying a service you don’t need, or not buying one early enough, when the problem is still very small.

That said, here are some telltale signs that you need refinishing:

You experience leaks, drips, and overflow: We’re sure you’ve been told this, but water or moisture can damage wood floors like nothing else. In fact, it’s never recommended for installation in high-moisture areas like the bathroom, where suddenly that kitchen pipe might burst or the dishwasher will run over.

If that happens, dry it out as quickly as possible, but there still might be buckling and warping, and if it doesn’t it might still be a good idea to look for damage, since even the smallest amount of water can hurt the wood. Have an expert, someone you know and trust in a wood floor refinishing service; come to look for any damage.

If there is, you can “nip it in the bud” before major problems. If there isn’t, you’ll know you can stop worrying,

You want change. Refinishing isn’t always about repair; sometimes it just about decor. If you’re tired of the same old style, you don’t need to replace the entire floor, just get a refinishing service.
They just look worn: Over time, your floors can show wear, especially in living rooms or foyers where there’s a lot of walking. Don’t forget about friction, either, such as under the dining room table. It’s true that most scratches take place in the veneer and not in the wood itself, but don’t forget, if the veneer is worn, it will only allow water to get into the wood.

Still Not Sure? Here’s a Simple Test You Can Do Yourself

Drop a little water on the wood. If it sits on the surface, or seeps in slowly, you’re okay for a while, but if it absorbs quickly, it’s time to call us.
