Question: Can I just get a hardwood floor refinishing, or will I need to replace them?
Answer: Most likely there will be no need to replace the floors, because a wood floor refinishing service will most likely do the trick!
There’s no doubt about it: We love our pets! They become part of the family, and we run and play with them.
We also love our hardwood floors. They add richness and elegance to any style, and wow, those undertones! You can create a stunning look, especially when the floor is next to an amazing view, a beautiful piece of artwork, or coordinated with high-style, colorful upholstery.
Delair’s Carpet Barn says you can love both your dog and your floors; come into our showroom in East Montpelier, VT, and our flooring experts will tell you how easy it will be to have professional wood floor refinishing.
Two Dog Challenges That Can Be Handled With a Wood Floor Refinishing Service
1. Pet Accidents. If you wipe it up quickly, and use a pet-friendly stain (polyurethanes are good), it should pose no problem. If the spill or accident does set, it will stain, and pets do have a habit of going back to the “scene of the crime” to keep marking. At that point, no finish will do the trick.
However, if you have a floor refinishing service that includes sanding, that will remove the problem entirely. We sand it down, coat it again, and the floor is like new! While some will recommend placing an inexpensive area rug or mat over the floor to “protect” it, that isn’t really the best idea; the rug can get wet and seep into the floor.
2. Dents, Scratches and Dings. Here’s the good news: Many scratches are really only in the varnish, so you just may only need a simple procedure. However, some of the dents can be deeper, so you may need something more thorough. The only way we can know that for sure is for our experts to take a look at it. The best way to protect your floors is (A) Use more coats (B) Use a tougher finish and (C) Keep those nails trimmed. Sometimes an oil-based finish will make the floor less slippery, good if your dog is one who runs a lot.
