Here at Delair's Carpet Barn, we offer first-class wood floor refinishing services. We get callers and visitors every week who seem to have the same question: "How often should I refinish my hardwood floors?". While it would be nice to offer a quick, stock response, the truth of the matter is that it actually depends upon a number of factors, and there are no cookie-cutter answers to the question.

Basically, this is the wrong question to be asking. The real question is how to tell if your floors need to be re-sanded or not! Now that, we can answer! Here's what to look for.

Dull Luster

Over time, that shiny new floor is going to start to look a little dull. No matter how well you take care of your floors, it's inevitable. When you get to the point that the floors are so dull and lusterless that you simply can't stand to look at them anymore, that would be a good time to consider hiring a wood floor refinishing service.

Deep Gouges

There are plenty of solutions to fix minor nicks and scratches on a hardwood floor, but deep gouges are another animal completely. Sharp impacts from hard objects, careless high-heels or cleats, or dragged furniture, can all lead to deep scars in your wood that can only be remedied by re-sanding and refinishing.

To avoid these issues in the first place, you should put pads on the feet of your furniture, don't allow high-heels or cleats in the house, and always lift your furniture instead of dragging it.

Too Many Scratches

Like we said, you're going to get little scratches from time to time, but eventually, they're going to add up. Scratched wood floors are more susceptible to damage from water, and even infestation by pests. If you have a lot of scratches all over your floors, it's probably time to refinish your wood floors.

If your floors are displaying the issues outlined above, and you would like to get them back to their former state of lustrous glory, Delair's Carpet Barn is here to help!
