Luxury vinyl is a versatile and durable flooring material that is stain and dent-resistant, and scratch-resistant. This waterproof and easy to clean flooring is child-and pet-friendly, and it stands up to heavy foot traffic. Also, luxury vinyl has an upscale look, and it blends well with any decor. Delair's Carpet Barn in East Montpelier, Vermont, features a luxury vinyl showroom filled with top manufacturers' latest styles. We offer other types of flooring, too, along with related services.

Wear layer

The surface layer determines the durability of multi-layer vinyl flooring. This transparent wear layer protects the high tech image layer. Vinyl planks look like hardwood, while vinyl tiles look like hardwood or other tile materials such as stone. A thick wear layer offers optimum scratch resistance and image protection. Brands with a 20+ mil wear layer are ideal. The best brands often have an additional coating on top of the wear layer, making it even more difficult to scratch the flooring.

Maintenance

Since dirt buildup can cause scratching, it's best to make sweeping with a soft broom a daily chore, or vacuuming with the hard floor attachment, if preferred. Periodic deep cleaning is another chore that should be added to a to-do list. Soap can dull the flooring. Therefore, the floor should be mopped with only water, white vinegar mixed with water, or luxury vinyl cleaner and water. Remember to use protectors on furniture and heavy electronics to prevent scratching.
