Let’s face it. These days it's entirely too easy to throw something out when a simple repair could have sufficed. That’s the case with hardwood floors, especially, because these kinds of floors will last for years—sometimes as many 100—and they often look even better with age, so think refinishing and restoration before replacement.

Life happens. They get scratched and worn looking and people can get tired of the same color floor. Refinishing is the answer to both. Scratches are usually in the veneer, not the wood itself so, unless there’s structural damage (such as warping or termites), a simple one without sanding may be all that’s needed.

Yes, you can change the color of a floor, even going from dark to light. I did. They were sanded, the stain was changed and voila! I had blond floors.

Delair’s Carpet Barn in an expert when it comes to refinishing a wood floor. We can give you a simple test that you can do by yourself to determine if you need this service.

First, drop a little water on the surface. If it doesn’t get absorbed at all, or if it soaks in the wood very slowly, you might either be able to wait a few months before any service is needed--or maybe you just need a simple refinishing. If it absorbs quickly, you’ll probably just need a simple one without sanding, as long as there’s no structural damage. If you see things like dents, it would most likely have to be a more thorough one.

If you have any questions, call us for a consultation.

There’s no such thing as dust-free

That seems to be a marketing buzzword these days--and that’s all it is, marketing. Of course, when you sand wood there will be dust. We do clean it all up, however, so you won’t be left with a dusty, and sloppy, environment when we leave.

Even if the floor doesn’t need sanding you still have the smells of veneers and stains so, if possible, keep the windows open.

Still have questions? Be prepared and come into the Delair’s Carpet Barn showroom in East Montpelier to learn about our service when for floor refinishing.
